????
Okay, someone is going to have to explain to me what this contraption is because they're everywhere around here and I can't figure it out.
Ah...it's called a Beaver Slide...for making huge hay piles...apparently used in the old days and here in this particular valley. (Everyone else makes hay bails.)

Notice all the brown (dead) trees on the mountain; soon they'll all be dead. Pine Beetles have swept across the area and are killing much of the forests. Apparently, there is nothing that can be done.

Trudging Up the Hill
That black speck on the highway is me. And honestly, I'm starting to have some serious concerns about some people's topographical understanding of their own state--the people who assured me that it would be "all flat or down hill from the Rockies!"
Not so much.

Meth
I'm getting the feeling this is a major issue out here because you can't find a town anywhere without some kind of sign or billboard about it.

Met this family traveling from Nevada to visit relatives in Montana. We talked about war and post-traumatic stress, and about their son Tyler.

At the Bike Shop after Flat # 5
Miles from Miles City fixed my tire and generously gave me some spare tubes. He was deeply in-tuned to the issues of war and post-traumatic stress and had much to share. He said in Miles City, MT, he sees a lot of it.
